A beginner's guide to surfing Bingin

Where to rent a board, when to paddle out, and who to call if you want a lesson.

Surfer at Bingin Beach

Bingin is the friendliest of the Bukit's reef breaks for someone learning. The wave is short, the water is shallow on the inside, and the locals are patient if you keep out of their line.

Rent a foam board from the second shack on the beach — they hold the keys to a small locker if you don't want to carry your own. Paddle out an hour before low tide, sit a little wide, and wait. Three good waves and you'll forget what day it is.
